Commercial production circa 1870, with shortened 30 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating lader rear-sight, later South African serial number, colour-hardened flip-open breech marked 'SNIDER PATENT' (faint), plain lock, the tail marked with a crown device over 'ENFIELD, the lock signed forwards of the hammer 'R. HUGHES PATENT', walnut full-stock with exposed muzzle, the right side of butt stamped in an oval 'ROBERT HUGHES UNIVERSAL FIREARMS WORKS BIRM.M', iron furniture including two barrel-bands, chained firing-pin protector and jag ended ramrod, strong traces of finish remaining
